What is elderberry?
Elderberry is a plant native to the Americas.
It contains high amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin, which are found in green leafy vegetables, and beta-carotene, a pigment that’s also found in vitamin A, B and C. It also contains vitamin A from sun exposure.
The luteins and zeacans are found naturally in berries, and when they’re consumed, they’re converted to the luteine in the berries.
Elderberries also contain antioxidants that help protect against aging.
Elderberries contain the same amount of lutins and tannins found in spinach and spinach leaves, as well as alpha-carotinol, a compound that’s found in red wine, blueberries and other foods.
The latter can be toxic to liver and heart cells.
What can it do for me?
Eldersberry is an effective supplement, according to the Mayo Clinic.
Studies have shown that older adults with heart disease, dementia, diabetes and other conditions who take elderberry can reduce their risk of dying from heart disease.
And the supplement can help improve blood flow to parts of the brain that can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
But there are a few side effects that some older adults may be concerned about.
Elderberry supplements have a high level of caffeine, which can increase the risk of a heart attack.
Some older adults also experience anxiety and depression.
The FDA recently found that Elderberry was associated with a 2.7-fold increase in the risk for suicide among individuals 65 and older.
And some older people who take the supplement may be more likely to experience side effects.
In one study, a study of elderly men and women in Los Angeles County found that those who took Elderberry experienced increased levels of nausea, headaches, fatigue, irritability and insomnia.
Eldercare experts have also cautioned that Elderberries could be more effective for older people taking it for their health, than for those taking other supplements.
If you take Elderberry for a long time, the supplement could cause serious side effects, such as a heart problem, and you should talk to your doctor about any side effects you experience.
