How to use a brain supplement that might boost your brain performance
- August 24, 2021
You might think a brain-boosting brain supplement would make you feel like a badass.
But it turns out the brain-enhancing effects of a certain Bortololone supplement can be countered by a boost in the neurotransmitter dopamine.
The results are reported in a new study in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology.
Brain scans from rats showed the effects of Bortolinone were reversed when the rats were given a dose of a compound called D-cycloserine.
The result suggests a novel compound, known as D-Cycloserine, can be used as a brain booster.
A lot of supplements contain D-cycloserines, but only a handful of compounds can bind to dopamine receptors on the surface of the brain.
D-cycleers bind to D1 and D2 dopamine receptors, which have similar receptors to D2 and D3 receptors on brain cells.
The researchers tested D-cyl-S-Cycle as a dopamine booster and found that the compound increased dopamine levels in the striatum, a part of the prefrontal cortex, which is important for planning and reasoning.
This finding suggests the compound can activate dopamine receptors in the brain, which can boost motivation, concentration and executive functions, according to the study’s authors.
Brain boosters, such as DCyclos, may work by stimulating the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin, which are also involved in motivation and cognition, the authors said.
They added that D-cycles could also be helpful in reducing the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
